    Megan Hayes has a background in cultural tourism and event marketing, PR and management. She manages the University Communications team, the university’s content management strategy and social media presence. She is certified in crisis communications and media crisis interview and response training. She is managing editor of the university magazine and host of the SoundAffect podcast.

    Jeff Cloninger has a background in public relations management, event planning, trade association management and web development. He has previously worked as vice-president of a public relations and marketing company, and spent 14 years as a communications professional with Appalachian’s division of Business Affairs. He is the PIO for the Emergency Operations Center, and maintains the unit’s emergency response plan, and manages weather-related closing and cancellation messaging. He is also an adjunct instructor with the Department of Communication.

    Linda Coutant has a background as a reporter, writer, television producer and editor. She is a member of the emergency communications team, and is certified in search engine optimization and crisis communications. Current projects include managing the content creation for program area web pages, writing and editing feature stories for the university website, writing and editing press releases and supervising writing interns.

    Jim Fleri (part-time, non-student temporary) has a background in advertising, merchandising, graphic and web design. He creates custom graphics for print and web production, including presentations, brochures, fact sheets and branded merchandise. His recent projects include developing icons for university use in web, mobile and print applications.

She also manages the university's online communication toolbox and online marketing center.

She has also edited for a number of trade magazines and educational publications, including for North Carolina A&T State University and University of North Carolina Wilmington. She writes feature stories for print and web distribution, and manages the Chancellor's newsletter. She is also editorial director, writer and editor for the university magazine and social media content writer.

She is the primary contact for emergency communications and weather-related closings and cancellations, and covers key university events, writing and distributing news releases.
