Campus emergencies

When emergencies occur on campus, emergency notifications will be immediately sent to all students and employees through App State’s campus-wide emergency communications system to include:

  • text messaging
  • voice messaging
  • siren warning system
  • PC desktop alerts
  • email and web technologies

Students and employees who would like to receive voice and text alerts, must opt-in. Learn more about AppState-ALERTS.

The Appalachian State University Police Department (App State Police) works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to prevent crime, solve problems and protect App State's community members and visitors. Additionally, the department aims to be a leader in innovative public safety ideas and strategies.

The Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Management (EHS&EM) works in coordination with other departments across campus to maintain a safe, healthy and prepared campus. Students, employees and campus visitors may visit App State’s Emergency Preparedness Website to learn more about campus emergency preparedness and how to stay prepared for specific types of emergencies.
